Position Title: Nursing Lab and Simulation Assistant Department: Nursing (NRS) Division: Health Sciences (HLT) Employee Status: Part-Time 9-months (Fall and Spring Semesters) (up to 25 hours a week as directed by Supervisor) Group: NA Grade: NA Salary: ($43.00-$46.00 hourly) FLSA: Non-Exempt ICCB: Tech/Professional Issued: Updated: 10/2024&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; Reporting Relationships Reports to: Dean of Health Sciences Supervision Exercised: None&nbsp; <h4>Job Summary: This nine-month part time position is responsible for assisting in the strategic direction which supports student learning in the nursing lab setting, including nursing simulation.&nbsp; This includes, but not limited to: assisting with skills instruction; guidance in skills practice and clinical prep, student remediation in clinical deficiencies, maintenance &amp; organization of nursing labs.</h4>&nbsp; <h4>Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.&nbsp; Related duties may be assigned.</h4>Instructional Lab<ul><li>Assist in clinical skill instruction for the nursing program.</li><li>Coordinate and facilitate annual Boot Camp activities.</li><li>Instruct students in the proper use of lab equipment where appropriate.</li><li>Assist with supply and equipment inventory where appropriate.</li><li>Assist in short-range and long-range planning for the nursing lab.</li></ul>&nbsp; <ul><li>Collaborate with the nursing simulation and lab coordinator to compose and assemble props needed for patient scenarios such as but not limited to wounds, dressings, bodily fluids, and equipment.</li><li>Maintain competency and implement evidenced-based practice by performing literature searches, attending workshops or conferences on patient simulation/nursing skills.</li><li>Coordinate and support nursing skills laboratory activities in conjunction with full time faculty.</li><li>Tutor students in lab and clinical skills including scheduled appointments and walk ins.</li><li>Monitor students’ practice of skills and maintains record of attendance during open skills lab hours.</li><li>Provide support and assistance to practicing students during open lab hours.</li><li>Assist coordinator to maintain documentation of utilization of simulation and laboratories.</li><li>Monitor equipment and ensures clean and working condition.</li><li>Ensure cleanliness and organization of the open skills lab and simulation lab.</li><li>Dispose of sharps container and hazardous waste as per safety guideline procedures.</li><li>Coordinate ordering process and distribution of nursing student supply kits.</li><li>Assist with simulation activities as directed by coordinator.</li></ul>Related Duties <ul><li>Keep informed of current trends and development in the nursing profession.</li><li>Maintain student records and submit to appropriate individuals</li><li>Maintain communication with peers and serves as a resource in area of clinical specialization.</li><li>Other duties as assigned</li></ul>Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.&nbsp; The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.&nbsp; Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. &nbsp; Minimum Qualifications<ul><li>Active IL Registered Nurse License</li><li>Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing</li><li>Demonstrated competence in nursing practice with minimum two years of recent clinical experience in the acute care setting</li><li>Minimum one year nursing education experience or equivalent required (training and development in a clinical setting)</li></ul>&nbsp; <ul><li>Minimum two years clinical experience in adult medical surgical nursing</li></ul> &nbsp; Preferred Qualifications<ul><li>Knowledge and experience in nursing simulation</li><li>Commitment to the mission of the community college</li><li>Experience or expertise working with simulation equipment</li></ul> &nbsp; Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a medical lab setting. &nbsp; Physical Demands Physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
