NEUTRON

LEAD PROPULSION DESIGN ENGINEER

Based out of Rocket Lab's our headquarters in Long Beach, CA the Lead Propulsion Design Engineer will be responsible for the design of engine components (combustion chambers, turbo machinery, engine layout, etc) for the Archimedes Engine. In this role you’ll have the opportunity to lead a team of engineers who design, analyze and build hardware. You will support the Neutron and Archimedes teams, with deliverables required for internal leadership, board of directors, and investors.

WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO:

  • Lead a team of design engineers responsible for variety of engine components.
  • Create and implement design standards and best practices for propulsion design engineers.
  • Interface with vehicle, structures, avionics, and fluids team to optimize interfaces with the engine.
  • Lead the engine system design for both stages of the vehicle.
  • Work with leadership teams to drive design completion and resourcing to achieve program goals.
  • Perform and review trade studies with analysts, manufacturing engineers and subject matter experts for concept designs.
  • Work with technical subject matter experts to design engine systems to performance, quality and manufacturability requirements.
  • Work with internal and external fabrication teams to bring hardware from design to fruition.
  • Review and provide feedback on drawings for internal and external fabrication.

YOU’LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of heat transfer, fluids and structural mechanics
  • Fundamental understanding of mechanical design principals
  • Leadership experience with a small team.

THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:

  • Proficiency in GDT
  • Professional experience with NX, Ansys, and other commercial analysis software packages
  • Experience with propulsion systems design, analysis, test, operations, and/or manufacturing
  • Experience with best practices for design, qualification and production
  • Experience with a scrappy development environment.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to travel and communicate outside of work hours
  • Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed

Level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base Pay Range (CA Only)$107,000—$133,800 USD
