Position Summary
The School of Math, Science, and Engineering is seeking part-time faculty candidates for Lecturer of Physics in the Department of Atmospheric Science, Environmental Science, and Physics. Lecturers teach labs and/or lectures in undergraduate core physics courses including mechanics and/or electricity and magnetism. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of part-time faculty members at the University include teaching, and professional activities as assigned.

This applicant pool will remain open and be used to hire interested part-time faculty as needed for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Essential Functions
Basic Instructional Duties:
  1. Prepare course outlines and teach assigned courses based on approved departmental syllabi; prepare and deliver consistent, interactive lectures:
    • Introductory algebra and/or
    • Calculus-based physics courses.


  2. Incorporate the use of technology within lectures.
  3. Prepare and execute timely and meaningful assessments for assigned courses.
  4. Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure standard curriculum outcomes are met.
  5. Be available outside of class to help students learn as well as answer their questions (1 hour per 3-hour class, physically and/or electronically).
  6. Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook policies and procedures, including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.
  7. Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.
  8. Maintain contact with the department chair and participate in meetings upon request.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.


Job Duties


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge and teaching ability needed in algebra-based and calculus-based physics, including lectures and labs.
  • Ability to deliver instruction online.
  • Ability to effectively learn, use, and incorporate instructional technology into teaching.
  • Willingness and flexibility to teach day, evening and weekend sections as needed.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.


Required Education
Master’s Degree in Physics, OR Master’s Degree in an alternate field with 18 graduate semester hours in Physics.

Required Work Experience
None.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Physics.
  • Previous experience teaching at the college level.
  • Interest and experience in teaching a diverse population of students using computers and advanced technology to enhance the educational experience of students, both non-science and science majors.
