Academic Advisor

Position Summary
The Academic Advisor is responsible for providing academic advising services for students and implementing engagement and retention strategies in assigned School to meet the goals of Academic Support Services. The Academic Advisor reports to the Senior Academic Advisor.

Job Duties
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.);
- Strong interpersonal communication skills; strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Strong presentation skills for individual and group audience;
- Proficiency in handling multiple priorities, pivoting based on changing priorities, meeting deadlines, and problem solving;
- Outstanding ability to work with professionalism and confidentiality in a deadline driven environment with shifting priorities;
- Ability to consistently apply best practices in advising;
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
- Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
Bachelor's Degree.
Required Work Experience
One (1) year of experience in advising, student development, or related academic function within higher education or professional position in a high school setting such as counselor, teacher, or administrator. (At the department's discretion additional education or professional experience in a field directly related to the advisor's specific responsibilities may substitute for experience.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree.
- Experience with database management systems: Banner, DegreeWorks, etc.
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish).
- Experience with creating, retrieving, reviewing, and reporting data in a logical, sequential, and predictive manner.
- Experience developing interventions and individualized plans to support student retention.
- Experience serving as point of contact for students on learning contracts.
- Experience creating and delivering student success presentations.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
None.
Work Hours
Monday-Friday 8am-5pm with extended hours as needed, especially during peak periods.
Physical Demands
Ability to move across campus to various buildings for meetings and events.
